Musculoskeletal Diseases

Over the past century, global health priorities were largely focused on communicable diseases. With the world’s population growth, increased average age and decreased death rates, people are now living longer and becoming increasingly susceptible to non-communicable diseases, including musculoskeletal disorders. A recent study of the Global Burden of Disease estimated that musculoskeletal disorders accounted for 21.3% of the number of years lived with disability, globally. Such disorders include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, low back pain and neck pain as well as a number of other musculoskeletal disorders.
